註:「老子的學說,所講的都是抽象畫的道理,他說以貌取勝,你普通的面貌不要,就只有抽象。他又說無象之象,沒有象當中有象,所以不一定有象這個東西,但是有它的精神在,這也是抽象。他還有兩句話說得最明白,他說『得其環中,超以象外』,我們先在這個圈圈裏面做功夫,最後跳出圈子就好了嘛,那就是抽象。」

「象」,〈易經〉、〈老子〉、〈莊子〉均有論及,不外意涵脫俗世,效自然,與個人契合,達至「外師造化,中得心源」之境界。象,狀也,「無象之象」,就是以非具體之形象,描寫物狀,即超乎形象也,亦可謂抽象藝術之法門。


大千早悟之,筆底潑墨潑彩面貌新鮮,不襲前人,卻融先賢思想,與傳統環環相扣。其衍發源頭涉千頭萬緒,王洽破墨、米家雲山、遊歷所見之真山實水、天氣變化、西方抽象表現主義,甚至因糖尿病而日漸頹壞之視力,至重者當計其驚人之想像力和創造力。他自五十年代末不斷試驗研究,顏料、膠、水份和紙材之關係充分掌握運用,逐漸得心應手,在一九六五年達致高峰,亦因是時實行進軍歐洲大計,筆底更趨前衛,塑造效果至為抽象,不少極具代表性之經典寫成於此年,如〈幽谷圖〉、〈瑞士雪山〉 等,佳作迭出。本幅即寫於同年。


畫高五呎餘,取羅紋紙。全幅不著色,芟除顔色之桎梏,以純墨成之,與水份調和互破下,形成濃淡深淺之「五彩」之墨效。畫上無筆痕,線條、皴法、點景皆消失殆盡,無絲毫實際描劃,全依賴潑灑後水墨痕迹之隨機效果,達「無象」之全抽象境界。驟眼下,似與中國繪畫距離甚遠,惟畫家堅持傳統元素,選材仍是白紙黑墨朱印。他取直幅構圖,墨瀋縱橫,在大片濃厚積墨及淡墨痕中,不經意間營造如宋畫豐碑式矗立之山峰,丰姿巍然,峽幽谷深,四周靜穆,上罩煙雲萬重。細看下更見渲染、「屋漏痕」般之霧靄繚繞,水氣淋漓,直是中國傳統山水之體現。大千是時已完全擺脫傳統筆墨之羈絆,掙破物象,純施墨法,不靠一筆,在虛實互襯之對比下,營造強列空間感,渾然天成,氣象萬千,以最純粹之抽象手法,具象地表達中式雲山氣韻,創造力之驚人、藝術性之高,同儕難出其右,堪稱神來之作。


畫中題字極簡,僅點出時、地、人,隱於淡墨中,力求減低文字形體對畫面佈局之影響。畫上三印,其中「五四1965」以阿剌伯數字錄公元紀年,與民國年份並列。據大千好友、新聞界前輩黃天才在〈五百年來一大千〉書中所載「葆蘿告訴我:這方印,是大千親自設計,交由一位門生奏刀。再經親自修飾過的。顯然,這是準備鈐蓋在進軍國際藝壇或國際市場的作品上的。」正好說明此印袛鈐於潑墨潑彩畫作上之原因。畫中另有「無象之象」方型章,此印乃大千命學生刻成,鮮有採用,大千在訪問中曾詳述此句之含意(見首段)。以此鈐蓋畫面右上角最當眼處,畫旨真諦,呼之欲出也!


此無色、無筆、無象之畫法,無乃畫家一時興到,偶一為之的自我挑戰,寫來似一蹴而就,自然效果隨機,效果不可預測,故無重複相同之可能。同一手法之作極稀,公開資料中,僅見「梅雲堂」藏金箋〈潑墨山水〉,俱屬巨製,寫成於同年十一月,即本幅寫竟翌月,題謂「自開法門」,得意之色,足堪想像。
