Palladio, Andrea. The Architecture of A. Palladio. London: John Darby, 1721. Folio (475 x 310 mm). Second edition. Four books, two volumes in one. Engraved portrait of Palladio, engraved frontispiece, engraved head- and tailpieces, 230 engraved plates by John Vantack, 43 in first, 61 in second, 22 in third, and 104 in fourth books, several folding; light foxing throughout, though plates are quite clean, marginal closed tears to pages containing plate 56 in book two and plate 75 in book four, not affecting plates. In diced and mottled calf, spine with raised bands in seven compartments, each with dark brown morocco label, second compartment titled in gilt, others with repeat decoration in gilt; corners bumped, edges rubbed, some wear to boards, staining to endpapers. — Swan, Abraham. A Collection of Designs in Architecture. London: Brotherton, Buckland, and H. Piers and partner, 1757 [bound with] Swan, Abraham. The British Architect: or, the Builder’s Treasury of Staircases. Three volumes in one. 185 engraved plates, numbered to 60, 60, and 65 in each volume; foxing and toning to plates, dampstaining to plates 17 in volume 1 and 41 in volume 3, small internal tear to preliminary blank. In brown morocco-backed speckled boards, spine with raised bands in seven compartments, second compartment with black morocco label and tilted in gilt, decorative gilt board edges, red speckled edges; rubbing to edges with decorative pattern faded, corners bumped with exposure, boards stained and somewhat worn, hinges split. — Chippendale, Thomas. The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director: being a large collection of the most elegant and useful designs of household furniture. London: Printed by the author and T. Becket and P.A. de Hondt, 1762. Folio (448 x 300 mm). Third edition. Engraved dedication to Prince William Henry, Duke of Gloucester, 200 plates all after Chippendale; some foxing, staining. In calf binding, spine with raised bands in eight compartments, second compartment with red morocco label and titled in gilt, others ruled in gilt and with repeat decoration in gilt, red sprinkled edges; wear to boards, top corners bumped, marginal toning to endpapers. — Jones, Inigo. The Designs of Inigo Jones consisting of Plans and Elevations for Public and Private Buildings. London: Benjamin White for William Kent, 1770. Folio (510 x 400 mm). Two volumes in one. Engraved frontispiece, titles with portrait vignette, engraved dedication to King George, 99 engraved plates of designs by Inigo Jones and William Kent, numbered to 73 and 64 in each volume, some joined, 7 folding, engraved head- and tailpieces; long closed tear to plate 8 in volume one, short closed tear to plate 29 in volume one, some stray spots to plates, toning to a few plates, large marginal dampstaining to volume two, affecting plates 43 and 44, creasing to initial blanks. In reversed calf, spine with raised bands in seven compartments, second compartment with morocco label lettered in gilt, others with repeat decoration in gilt, boards and board edges with embossed decoration, edges sprinkled red; fading and rubbing to spine, loss at head and tail, rubbing to boards and edges, some stray stains to boards, corners bumped with exposure. — Soane, John. Two volumes in one. 54 engraved plates, 43 in volume one, 11 in volume two, publisher’s advertisements inserted at end; page [iii] repaired, foxing to plates, dampstain affecting plates 2 through 12 in volume one, plate 33 creased in volume one, small open tears to pages containing plates 16 and 39 not affecting plates, large closed tear across plate 5 in volume two, closed tears to plate 11. In red half-morocco over marbled boards, spine gilt; boards and binding quite worn, tears at head and tail, boards exposed at extremities, corners bumped, endpapers creased and stained.
