Description
Rhodochrosite
Sweet Home Mine, Alma Park County, Colorado, USA
Overall size 13.5 x 11.5 x 6.0 cm. Arguably at the pinnacle of fine mineral collecting, a high quality example from the Sweet Home Mine of Colorado forms the centerpiece of many important collections. Initially a silver mine dating from 1873, it would later gain fame not for its precious metals but for the beautiful red crystals it occasionally yielded. The present example exhibits numerous sharply defined and intense pink-red rhodochrosite rhombohedrons with a lovely accent of associated pale purple modified fluorite on matrix with a scattering of minute quartz points for good measure. A fitting addition to or wonderful start of any important mineral collection. With custom lucite base.
