An Early Charles II Silver Sweetmeat Dish and A Rare Irish Silver Porringer, London 1664 and Dublin circa 1750
the first embossed with stylized tulips and scroll handles, maker’s mark SR cinquefoil below probably for Simon Romeny; the second circular with molded rim, pierced flat shaped handle, engraved W*T, by William Townsend, marked on base and with scratch weight 6*19

For the first, see David Mitchell Silversmiths in Elizabethan and Stuart London, pp. 496-7, where he records a sweetmeat dish by this maker, sold Parke Bernet Galleries, New York, 1956.
For the porringer it should be noted that the engraved initials match those of the maker, William Townsend of 16 Fishamble St., apprenticed to Christopher Kindt 1718, freeman 1736, warden 1746-9, master 1749-50, elected Common Council city of Dublin 1755, assay master 1770-75, died 1775.
