Madame L. Cappiello, born Suzanne Meyer, was the wife of the graphic artist Leonetto Cappiello. Both Corcos and Cappiello were born in Leghorn, but Cappiello was a resident in Paris from 1898. Corcos had been in Paris from 1880 to 1885 and though there is no direct evidence of further stays, he travelled abroad in the first decade of the century: Berlin in 1904 and Lisbon in 1905. Therfore it is likely that he executed this intimate portrait of Cappiello’s wife on a trip to Paris in October 1909.
