A massive pair of continental silver-gilt candlesticks 

probably Egyptian, 19th century


engraved with the cypher and crown of a Khedive of Egypt, circular bases, tapering stems, vase sconces with drip pans and detachable nozzles, the bases engraved in Arabic below crown (Shafaq Noon 1301 AH), unidentified marks a bird with single wing displayed, also Arabic standard mark and Dutch import marks, in a fitted leather bound red velvet lined Asprey fitted case, metal rod, loaded

The arabic inscription and date Shafaq Noon 1301 AH (1883) might refer to ‘Shafaq Nur Hanim’  (died 1884) who was the Princess Consort to Khedive Ismail Pasha
