See John Culme, The Directory of Gold & Silversmiths Jewellers and Allied Traders 1838-1914, Woodbridge, 1987, vol. I, p. 247 et sec. for information on the important manufacturing silversmiths William Hutton & Sons Ltd. Particularly noteworthy is a record of a report by William Carr Hutton, son of the founder to the Children's Employment Commission of 1862 in which he describes the working practices of the firms and its relation to the boys and girls as young as 10 who worked there.

For Weir & Sons which at one moment in addition to Ireland had premises, in Cardiff, Swansea, Nottingham, Manchester and London, each run by one of the sons of the founder Thomas Weir, see: https://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18350&start=20
