This bottling from The Macallan was one of the distillery's oldest at the time of its release. this 1946 was launched alongside a slightly younger 51 Year Old Select Reserve distilled in 1948.

This 1946 vintage is a perfect snapshot of the post-war distillation at The Macallan. As coal was scarce in the Scottish Highlands, Northern distilleries were having to use locally cut peat for commercial fuel as well as for domestic fires. This whisky has a distinctive peat note, which is extremely rare in any of The Macallan's bottlings, particularly today.

"This is a lost style of Macallan, displaying light peat on the nose and on the palate. The distillery's profile is best known for a heavily sherried style, but this whisky is very woody with lightly seasoned oak. There is a great depth of malt flavour and a long finish, but the drying oak and light peat are the defining features. A very unusual Macallan indeed".
