Eight "Bullhorn" Dining Chairs
designed 1960
model no. 518
produced by Johannes Hansen Møbelsnedkeri, Denmark
teak, rosewood, leather upholstery
28½ x 28½ x 19¾ in. (72.3 x 72.3 x 50.1 cm) each
Overall in very good condition. The wooden surfaces appear to have been sensitively cleaned and oiled at some point in the history of the piece, and present with a beautiful and variegated palette of browns. Rosewood insets adorn each of the backrests and add further depth to the design. The wooden surfaces present with light surface scratches throughout and very minor edge wear concentrated to the legs and backrests. The teak with evidence of later and sensitive inpainting concentrated to the backrest and not visually distracting. In addition to the six chairs pictured in the catalogue photography, the lot includes two additional chairs which present with a deliberately slightly darker leather upholstery, which are meant to be used at the respective ends of the Hans Wegner dining table (lot 67). The later leather upholstery is in excellent condition throughout. This well-preserved set of chairs, together with the previous lot, provides collectors with an opportunity to acquire a full dining suite by Hans Wegner.
