"Valet" Chair, Model No. JH540

designed 1953

produced by Johannes Hansen, Copenhagen, Denmark

teak, brass, leather

branded JOHANNES HANSEN/COPENHAGEN/DENMARK

31 1/4 x 19 5/8 x 20 in. (79.4 x 49.8 x 50.8 cm)

Overall in very good condition. This clever design by Hans Wegner features a liftable seat that opens to an inner compartment, enhancing both its functionality and dynamism. The wooden surfaces throughout present with light scratches, minor abrasions, indentations and small nicks particularly concentrated to the edges and legs as consistent with age and gentle use. The reverse of the upper seatback presents with a few more pronounced scuff marks and traces of white residue, not visually distracting and which may be sensitively cleaned at the buyer’s discretion. The seat presents with scattered water marks, discolorations and light surface soiling consistent with gentle use, as well as a few small traces of adhesive residue to the front of the seat, not visually distracting. The brass fittings are in very good condition with occasional discolorations and tarnish consistent with age.
