Albert Frederic Saunders and George Switzer

"Nocturne" Cocktail Set, Model No. 1195

circa 1932-1934

comprising eight pieces, including a cocktail shaker, tray and six cups

manufactured by Benedict Manufacturing Company, East Syracuse, New York and Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company

electro-plated nickel silver, red Catalin and Micarta inset with anodized and dyed aluminum

cocktail shaker and cups each impressed BENEDICT and numbered 1195 with the firm's hallmark; the tray with molded Micarta mark

cocktail shaker: 16 1/4 in. (41.3 cm) high

tray: 3/4 x 17 3/4 x 13 3/4 in. (1.9 x 45.1 x 34.9 cm)

cups: 3 1/4 in. (8.3 cm) high each

Overall in very good condition. The metal surfaces throughout present with scattered surface scratches, scuffing, abrasions, traces of oxidation and light tarnish, consistent with age and gentle use. The cocktail shaker presents with a small concentrated area of loss to the silver plate, measuring approximately ½ x ¼ inch and not visually distracting. The interiors of the shaker and glasses with light surface soiling consistent with use. The Catalin finial is in well-preserved condition and retains its vibrant red finish. The finial displays a slight bend to one side, possibly inherent to production and not impacting functionality. The aluminum inlaid Micarta tray is in very good condition overall with some light scuffing and surface scratches throughout, particularly concentrated to the underside as consistent with use.
