"The work was created in collaboration with the Experimental Workshop (EXP) that began in 1972 as the Institute of Experimental Printmaking, founded by Garner and Ann Tullis in Santa Cruz. It became the Experimental Workshop in 1976 when it was relocated to San Francisco and continued to be owned and run by Ann McLaughlin (formerly Tullis) for years.

In 1982 Garner Tullis left the company and opened his own studio, Garner Tullis Workshop (GTW), in Emeryville, California. Francis worked with Tullis for many years, creating hundreds of unique monotypes."
