Physichromie No. 194

casein, cardboard and plastic elements on wood

23¾ by 40¾ in.

60.3 by 103.6 cm.

Executed in August 1965.

The panel is in very good condition. The plastic strips are straight, rigid, and uniformly installed. The painted background is tightly bound with excellent color retention. Two areas of small inpainting (red line 1/8” and blue line 1/4”) were noted on the panel on the left side midway up the edge. Two small areas in blue lines next to each other presented as possible fills on the top left quadrant of the panel. Scattered tiny anomalies in the paint where the gaps in the top color reveal another color below were visible. This is a typical feature of the artist’s work and inherent to its fabrication. The aluminum frame has a directional satin finish that exhibits a tiny nick on the right edge, several hairline scratches on the sides, a 2” abrasion in the metal on the bottom edge and faint handling marks. A small ½” anomaly in the metal and occasional pitting was also noted on the top face of the frame. The panel has a light dust layer with occasional tiny pieces of particulate matter adhered to the surface. The panel is structurally sound.  (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Wilson Conservation, LLC.)
