Petit Matin

signed Joan Mitchell (upper right)

oil on canvas

18 by 15 in.

45.7 by 38.1 cm.

Executed in 1982.

This work is in very good condition overall. There is evidence of light wear and handling visible along the edges with some associated hairline craquelure at the pull margin along the edges with some resultant rubbing and extremely minor losses at the extreme corners. There are fine hairs adhered along the bottom turning edge. The colors are bright, fresh and clean. Under very close inspection, some very fine hairline cracks are visible in the more thickly painted areas, particularly in the orange and green passage just below center, all of which appear to be stable and secure. Upon extremely close inspection, there is a minor loss to an impasto peak in the lower right quadrant approximately 5-inches from the right and 5.5-inches from the bottom edge. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there is no evidence of restoration. Framed.

Framed dimensions: 26 ¼ by 23 ¼ in. (66.7 by 59.1 cm.)
