Golden Gate

incised NEVELSON five times and variously incised with the dates 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1967

wood painted gold, in 10 parts

96 by 65¼ by 16½ in.

243.8 by 165.7 by 41.9 cm.

Executed in 1960-67.

This work is in very good and sound condition overall. All elements are secure and intact. There is evidence of wear and handling, and upon close inspection, there are scattered smudges, scuffs, abrasions and associated minor losses throughout. Within the center right cabinet, there is a small area on top of the rectangular container where the paint layer is lifting with associated flaking and losses. There are scattered areas of discoloration, and as expected with a sculpture of this construction, a light dust has settled in the crevices and throughout the surface.
