Containing the speeches of William H. Wharton and Stephen F. Austin regarding the Texas Revolution, this text brought important details of the rebellion to the United States at large. Also included is a reprinting of the Texas Declaration of Independence, made by the Texas delegates at Washington, on 2 March 1836, and an account of the resolutions passed after Wharton’s speech in New York, which itself “was received with thunders of applause” (54). Streeter notes that this appearance of the Declaration of Independence is likely its first printing in pamphlet form.
