Two documents:


i) James Monroe, 5th President, document signed, granting Nehemiah Moxley, a veteran of the War of 1812 ("...late a private in Hooks Company of thirty sixth Regt of Infantry..."), 160 acres of land in Illinois, countersigned by Josiah Meigs, Commissioner of the General Land Office, 1 vellum membrane, 6 October 1817, the verso with a note signed by Moxley with his mark, acknowledging the sale of his rights for $400


ii) John Quincy Adams, 6th President, letterpress copy of an autograph letter signed, to Baring Brothers, acknowledging receipt and promising to visit in London the following month, 1 page, 12mo, Paris, 10 May 1815


The letter by Adams, written in Paris during the Hundred Days of Napoleon's restoration, was written around the time Adams was appointed Ambassador to Britain.
