Autograph letter signed, to Colonel Wylde
acknowledging the likelihood that he will wish to retire from his present position as the Prince's Equerry, but hoping to avoid "consequently losing your services & the pleasure of your society", suggesting that he accept the office of Groom of the Bedchamber with which would come command of the Horse Artillery at Woolwich, 3 pages, 4to, royal stationery with embossed monogram, Buckingham Palace, 22 February 1846
Colonel Wylde (1788-1877) served as the Prince's Groom of the Bedchamber from 6 March 1846 until the Prince's death fifteen years later. He was one of Prince Albert's most trusted servants and undertook several confidential missions on his behalf to Spain and Portugal.
