Secretarial letter signed, and with one word added in his hand, to Général Berthier, the Minister of War, 15 October 1801


Napoleon as First Consul, orders Citizen Minister Berthier to draw up a plan for disarming the fortresses of the Republic, as would be normal for a time of peace, [in accordance with the forthcoming Peace of Amiens] while maintaining appropriate defences ("...Je vous prie, citoyen Ministre, de me présenter un projet...pour désarmer les places de la République, comme il est d’usage au temps de paix...")  


1 page, small 4to (23.5 x 18.3cm), printed stationery with an engraved vignette by Roger after Naigeon ("Au nom du peuple français. Bonaparte Ir Consul de la République"), Paris, 23 Vendémiaire, L'an 10 (15 October 1801)
