Benjamin Disraeli


A collection of six items, comprising:


i) Autograph letter signed, to Henry Colburn, reporting on his recent meeting with Prince Metternich at the end of what Disraeli considers will probably be his final visit to Britain ("...When I called on the Prince, he had quitted his hotel for the Austrian Embassy, where he lunched, & his carriages were at the door. I had the satisfaction of embracing him ten minutes before he left London..."), 4 pages, 8vo, Hughenden Manor, 18 October 1849;


ii) Autograph note signed ("D"), unaddressed but to W.E. Gladstone, requesting a meeting within the Commons Chamber ("...Will you give me a minute behind the [Speaker's] chair when convenient? ..."), 1 page, 8vo, House of Commons headed stationery, n.d.;


iii) Queen Victoria, autograph letter, in the third person, to Sir John Cowell, on the death of Disraeli, dated and annotated by Cowell "on Lord Beaconsfield's death", 2 pages, 8vo, Osborne headed mourning stationery, 19 April 1881;


iv) Queen Victoria, draft court circular with additions in pencil by the Queen on the death of Disraeli, 2 pages, 8vo, Osborne headed mourning stationery, 21 April 1881


v) G.E. Cowell, autograph letter signed, to her mother, on the effect of Disraeli's death on the Queen, 4 pages, 8vo, Osborne headed mourning stationery, 19 April 1881
