Wallis Simpson

gelatin silver print, tipped to a paper mount, signed and annotated 'Paris' in pencil on the mount, the photographer's 'Man Ray - 8 rue du Val-de-Grâce, Paris 5e - France, Danton 92-25' studio stamp (Manford M9) on the reverse, framed, 1935

image: 9 ⅛ by 7 in. (23.2 by 17.8 cm.)

frame: 18 by 15 ½ in. (45.7 by 39.4 cm.)

Please note the colors and shades in the online catalogue illustration may vary depending on screen settings. This print, on paper with a matte surface, is in generally excellent condition. It is trimmed to the image, slightly unevenly so along the upper edge. The photographer's careful handwork enhancing the sitter's eyelashes in ink is visible upon close examination. In raking light, the following are visible: the faintest silvering in the sitter's gloves; and a few subtle deposits of original retouching. The paper mount measures 12 1/4 by 9 1/2 in. On the reverse of the mount, '14.34 36' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil.
