The Domes from Union Point, Yosemite

mammoth-plate albumen print, mounted, 1878-81

image: 15 ½ by 21 in. (38.7 by 53.3 cm.)

Please note the colors and shades in the online catalogue illustration may vary depending on screen settings. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 representing the darkest, deepest albumen print and highlights that retain their original detail, this print is an 8. The dark tones are a deep eggplant color. The highlights in the sky area are slightly warm. There is a thin band of edge-fading along both vertical sides, extending no more than 1/2-inch into the image. The upper edge is very slightly darkened. There is very good detail throughout, from the dense tree branches in the foreground to the craggy rockfaces in the background. This photograph is in generally very good to excellent condition. There are scattered hairline scratches and impressions visible in raking light, none of which detract from the overall fine appearance of this print. The mount is worn and the corners are bumped. There is an old adhesive remnant along the left edge. The front and reverse of the mount are soiled and the edges darkened.
