'A Portfolio of Ten Photographs by Brassaï'

(Roslyn Heights, New York: Witkin-Berley, Ltd., 1973, an edition of 50), a portfolio of 10 gelatin silver prints, each mounted, the portfolio label, with sequential numbers and edition '28' in ink, on the reverse, 1932-51, printed in 1973; together with the printed title, signed and dated and with edition number '28' in ink, plate list, and printed matter. Folio, black cloth case and slip-case with printed title

images: each approximately 11 ⅞ by 9 ¼ in. (30.2 by 23.5 cm.) or the reverse

portfolio case: 21 ⅛ by 16 ⅞ in. (53.7 by 42.9 cm.)

Please note the colors and shades in the online catalogue illustration may vary depending on screen settings. The photographs are in generally excellent condition. The following are visible when examining some of the prints in raking light: occasional soft creases; silvering in the darkest areas; and deposits of original retouching. ''Bijou' of Montmartre, 1932': There is a stray ink deposit on the mount at the upper left edge of the print, likely excess from an attendant deposit of retouching on the image. 'Market Porter, Les Halles, 1939': The right side of this print is rippled, likely a result of the mounting process. On the reverse of the mounts are titles and inventory numbers in an unidentified hand in pencil. There is minor soiling on the reverse of some mounts. The case, slip case, and printed front matter are in generally excellent condition. There are stray scratches on the cover of the slipcase. Adhered to the spine of the portfolio case is a small circular label with the number '28' in an unidentified hand in ink. The printed text includes a biography, a foreword by the photographer, and an introduction by A. D. Coleman. The signed title page is slightly soiled.
