Artist's Statement

Mayahuel is the female deity associated with the Maguey plant among cultures of central Mexico. As the personification of the maguey plant, Mayahuel is also a maternal and fertility goddess. She nourishes the living beings with the milk of the maguey when fermented produces an ecstatic inebriation, which her helpers, the 400 rabbits, take for a mystical experience.
