Description

John Ruskin

Autograph letter signed, to Miss Tiny White

regretting that he cannot come to her performance ("... the character and variety of your Matinee would have exhausted my broken powers of attention - and you might perhaps have seen me look weary..."), assuring her that her "genius and perseverance - if they are what your letters lead me to suppose, will ensure you finally succeed", and looking forward to hearing her recite at home and to a promised kiss, 3 pages, 8vo, n.p., 29 June, n.y., with autograph envelope, fold tear

"Miss Tiny White", an aspiring performer, has not been identified. Ruskin's reference to his "broken powers of attention" suggests this letter dates from after his first breakdown of 1871.
