Description

the necklace comprising eight ribbed beads and nine hanging pendants, each featuring a palmette set with coloured glass, rosette and crescent-shape terminals, reverse plain, later string cord for fastening 


beaded area: 26cm.

This necklace belongs to a small group of jewels from Morocco. These jewels were highly appreciated by European collectors in the early twentieth century. A similar necklace was in Elsa Schiaparelli's collection, one of the most famous avant-garde fashion designers of the first half of the last century (see: American Vogue, 15th August 1941). Another gilt-silver Lebba is in the Metropolitan Museum, New York (see: M. Jenkins & M. Keene, Islamic Jewellery in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1983, p.137, no.78).
