Commissioned Portrait

Pigment Print

This donation, by artist Buck Ellison, includes one portrait sitting at the patron’s home. The work will be accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity. The session will normally last 1.5 hours and Buck will choose one final portrait. The editing/printing process can take 2-4 weeks after the sitting: the print will either be delivered or mailed to the sitter or a framer. This price excludes printing, framing, travel, and lodging for Buck and his assistant. We ask that the sitting take place within one year from the purchase date.

Buck Ellison (b. 1987, San Francisco, lives and works in Los Angeles) broadly investigates the language of privilege through meticulously researched images, often executed through staged settings and performative interventions into the visual language of photography. On the surface, many of Ellison's images appear to mildly reproduce the habits of comfortable, white, upper-middle-class families. However, lurking beneath this is a deep network of enquiry into how whiteness and privilege are sustained and broadcast. His works showcase the mechanisms that quietly, even politely, obscure inequality in the United States.
