Sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) tooth inlays

The shaft inscribed in yellow ink: “FIJI. WBSTR. 1898 P   FROM COL KNOLLY’S COLL.”, and in white ink: “3898.”


Length: 45 1/8 in (114.6 cm)
“Colonel Knolly”; probably Louis Frederick Knollys, presumably collected in Fiji between 1875-1880 whilst serving as aide-de-camp to Governor Arthur Hamilton-Gordon
