circa 2nd Century B.C.

turned to her right, her hair parted in the centre and falling in a long tapering plait over the nape of the neck; no restorations.

Von Zengen Kunstauktionen, Bonn, November 30th, 2015, no. 455
acquired by the present owner at the above sale

The turn of the head, the hairstyle, even the facial features have a close parallel in the head of an over-lifesize statue of Nike in Athens, dating from the Hellenistic period: N. Kaltsas, Sculpture in the National Archaeological Museum Athens, 2002, p. 282, no. 593; http://arachne.uni-koeln.de/item/objekt/1006. The present head might well have belonged to a similar figure.
