3rd Century B.C./1st Century A.D.


of rectangular form, carved in relief with a figure standing on a fragmentary base with hands resting flat on the abdomen, and wearing a short-sleeved top and vertically grooved skirt, the eyes with inlaid rims and pupils, the eyebrows grooved.

Height 31 cm.


probably from Hayd ibn 'Aqil, the necropolis of ancient Timna'
Antonin Besse (1927-2016) and Christiane Besse (1928-2021), Aden and Paris, acquired in Yemen in the 1960s (colour photograph stamped March 1966)
by descent to the present owner
