A Roman Marble Marine Sarcophagus Relief Panel

Antonine Period, circa late 2nd Century A.D.


from the front of a sarcophagus, carved in high relief with two confronted sea-centaurs in the center flanked by two nereids each riding a sea-horse, and at each end of the panel with a nereid grasping a sea-monster swimming away from a sea-centaur, multiple erotes cavorting among the figures.
