Sotheby’s is pleased to present American Visionary: Fine Jewels from the Collection of Mrs. John L. Marion, open for bidding 10 – 18 May. Mrs. Marion’s jewels are an extension of her awe-inspiring personality, strong in presence and style. She gravitated toward bold designs by American makers like David Webb, Verdura and Andrew Clunn, embracing a joyous and confident aesthetic that may be described as pure Texan. Color abounds with turquoise, tourmaline and aquamarine appearing alongside sapphires, emeralds and rubies in highly sculptural gold mountings. Highlights include a pair of sugarloaf cabochon emerald earclips, a striking diamond collar and a wonderful selection of enamel bangles by Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co.
