Description

Montrachet 2001

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

Côte de Beaune, Grand Cru

1 Level lower than others at 3cm, scuffed labels, 1 bin-soiled label, 1 slightly torn label and 'From the Cellar of Mark Andrew Levitt' stamped on label, 2 different importers, 2 signs of old seepage

Nutty, lanolin nose. Oh, but the taste - absolutely huge, fat, rich, mind-blowing. Sweet greengages - explosive orange zests, allspice and ginger. Gingerbread finish with a final lime sign-off. Tasted again in 2009 at a wonderful dinner in Athens and as superb, and now as ready, as ever.
