A George III silver epergne, Thomas Pitts, London, 1763

of conventional form, the elaborate pierced centre basket supported by a stand issuing four branches, each with a smaller oval basket, engraved with a coat-of-arms and crests

46cm, 18 1/10 in wide

3768gr, 121oz 3dwt

All original component parts; the central basket is fully hallmarked while the branches, numbered 1-4 are marked with the lion passant and maker's mark TP for Thomas Pitts; the four small baskets are also each part-marked with the lion passant and maker's mark. The hallmarks are good and clear throughout and the cast and chased decoration is still crisp. One circular section that holds the basket (branch 3) is slightly bent and would benefit from straightening in order to fit the basket more easily, one or two baskets have dents to their foot rims, the crests and coat-of-arms appear to be later engraved, otherwise the overall condition is good.
