Hinge mounted in two places along the upper edge to a modern decorative mount. There is some very minor surface dirt to the upper right quarter of the sheet. The work remains in otherwise extremely good condition throughout, due in part to the fact that until recently it was preserved in a bound album of drawings. The combination of media remain extremely fresh throughout with the colours still vibrant and strong and the extensive under drawing clearly visible. Sold in a French Empire frame.

The drawing was contained in an album with fourteen landscapes, portraits and compositions, by 19th century artists, including Vernet, Pinelli and Lami, the binding dating from circa 1830 and bearing the interlaced initials: JHC [?] on the back cover. The page on which the present drawing was placed bears the inscription in brown ink: Théodore Géricault 1817 and brown ink framing lines;
