Federico Uribe's artwork resists classification. Rooted in the craft of sculpture and paint, it rises from intertwining everyday objects in surprising ways, but still with a formal reference to the history and tradition of classical art.

Though originally a painter, Uribe set aside his painting practice in the early 2000s to create sculptures and installations of human figures and animals. He uses readymade materials in innovative ways; golf balls, for example, serve as the fleece of sheep in some sculptures. Uribe transforms these common objects into colorful figures that stretch the limits of a given material’s original use and value. Painting remains an important formal influence for Uribe, who often integrates paintbrushes and colored pencils into his works.

Uribe’s work has become prominent in the United States over the past decade. His artwork has been collected by and featured in multiple museums and exhibitions in North and South America, Asia, and Europe.
