'Chez Mondrian', 1926

Ferrotyped silver print, printed no later than 1942. Titled 'Entrée Chez Mondrian' and dated in pencil with photographer's 'ANDRE KERTESZ' stamp verso.

Image 24.3 x 18.5 cm (9½x 7¼in.);

sheet 25.5 x 19.5 cm (10 x 7⅝in.)

This early ferrotyped print is in overall very good to condition, with crisp contrasts. Each corners slightly bumped; faint fold to upper right and lower left corners and along lower margin, all away from image. As expected with ferrotyped prints, a few tiny indentations and finger print marks visible across the glossy surface; as well as light wipe marks in upper left corner; some very small retouching marks across print, a couple of tiny pressure points, a faint and fine half-moon handling crease near centre of left edge (2.5cm), a minute crease (<1cm) near lower right corner, some very superficial stains near right edge and hardly noticeable silverization along edges and dark areas of the lower half of the print; all of the above only visible in raking light. Two fine fold lines starting from lower edge towards centre of the prints, visible on verso, probably from previous restoration, visible under close inspection. Two mounting tape remnants along upper edge verso. Despite those small imperfections, a beautiful and rare early print of the iconic image.
