The Rolex Daytona was powered by Valjoux manual winding movements from its inception in 1963 until the introduction of the reference 16520 in 1988. The all-modernized and larger 40mm case would accommodate a modified Zenith El Primero automatic calibre, internally renamed the Rolex caliber 4030.
The present reference 16528 stands as the luxurious variant of the Daytona, boasting both the case and Oyster bracelet in yellow gold. This particular example dates from 1991 and features a champagne inverted 6 dial. These early dials were produced by Singer between 1991 and 1993 and display an upside-down 6 to the bottom sub-dial as well as a non-serif text.
