Rolex celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Submariner in 2003 with the launch of a special variant of the reference 16610. The reference 16610LV (LV standing for Lunette Verte / Green Bezel) differs from the conventional model in its bezel color and was quickly nicknamed 'Kermit' by Rolex collectors.
Collectors have observed several iterations throughout the model's production life, as Rolex launched 6 dial designs and 2 case designs over time.
The present example dates from 2004 and features a case with non-drilled lugs, as confirmed by the '16610 T' engraving between the lugs (T meaning "Trou Borgne", that is "Blind Hole"). furthermore, the dial features an oval O in the Rolex script in addition to a wide "Oyster Perpetual Date" line with large spaces. The Swiss Made inscription at 6 o'clock is also sitting on top of 5 cropped graduations. It is finally important to mention that these details make sense given the case number and correspond to what some collector refer to as a Mark III Kermit.
