With a production period spanning between 1989 and 2007, the reference 16710 stands as a classic reference. The last "old-school" GMT-Master underwent several evolutions before it was replaced with the current 'Maxi-case' and Cerachrom bezel models.
The present example dates from 2005 and stands in immaculate condition. Offered on behalf of its first owner, this unworn 16710 shows intact non-drilled lugs and case bevels. The timepiece is fitted with an equally wonderfully preserved Jubilée bracelet with solid endlinks and a blue and red bezel insert for the classic Pepsi look. The timepiece is fitted with a "SWISS MADE" dial, indicating that the lume plots are filled with Superluminova, an evolutive glowing compound which Rolex introduced in 2000. Movement-wise, the watch is powered by the excellent calibre 3185, which was introduced in 1989. It boasts a quick-set hour hand for quick date navigation and hour changes in addition to a hacking second feature.
While Rolex produced many examples of the reference 16710, finding an unworn example is a dauntingly arduous mission in today's market. Offered with its full set including the original punched guarantee and all the documentation, this lot still proudly displays its tarnished factory sticker to the back.
