A GOLD AND ENAMEL HUNTING CASED WATCH
CIRCA 1850, NO. 7441
• Movement: damascened movement, lever escapement, compensation balance, wolf's tooth winding
• Dial: white enamel dial, black Roman numerals and outer five-minute divisions, blued steel fleur-de-lys hands, subsidiary seconds, signed Ernest Francillon
• Case: gold engraved case, polychrome enamel floral decoration to the back, engraved vacant cartouche to the cover, gold cuvette signed Ernest Francillon Geneva, case and cuvette numbered 7441

Ernest Francillon took over his ailing uncle's firm, Agassiz around the middle of the 19th century. A few years later, Ernest realised a long held dream of re-establishing this company as a complete watch factory all under one roof, which was a relatively new concept at the time. Shortly after he took over the firm, he re-named it, 'Longines, Ernest Francillon', indicating that the present watch was probably made in the company's early years, shortly before it was renamed Longines in 1867.
