Rolex debuted the first Cosmograph Daytona with an in-house movement in 2000 via reference 116520 in steel. Previously, the brand relied on a Zenith movement that they modified and upgraded to meet their exacting standards. Due to the model's resounding success, Rolex introduced more luxurious versions of the reference, such as this example, the Ref 116523 in steel and yellow gold. Today, this model remains extremely popular due to its classic timeless design, storied history, and wearability. The ref. 116523 features a traditional 40mm Oyster case in steel off set by its 18k gold bezel, crown and screw-down pushers worn on a matching steel and 18k yellow gold flat-link Oyster bracelet. The gold bezel displays a 400-kilometer Tachymeter scale and the luscious blue dial with red accents featured 18k applied gold Arabic numerals. The current example is in very good overall condition and is accompanied by its Rolex presentation box with outer packaging and booklets.
