Description
Perrier Jouët, Belle Epoque 1995
Jeroboam No. 1664 of 2000
Tasted from magnum. Hervé Deschamps' first Belle Époque and, climatically, a real test from which he emerged with flying colours! Spring frosts and a lack of sun at the end were part of the problem but, in the end, the all-important (for Belle Époque) Chardonnays were wonderful, combining a lightness of touch with power. The very pale colour leads to such an alluring, delicate bouquet and perfect harmony on the palate. It does not have the weight of the 1996, but it is more classic, with real elegance on the finish. Beauty is its hallmark. Serena Sutcliffe, MW
