Description

Château Mouton Rothschild 2002

Pauillac, 1er Cru Classé

Excellent levels, labels very sligtly wrinkled at edges, otherwise excellent appearance

Label Artist: Ilya Kabakov

In 2018, a wonderfully 'Yes, top Pauillac' nose, with lots of smoky blackcurrants. Just textbook Mouton, even 'blind', but the vintage was more difficult to fix as it combined vibrant fruit with tannins that appear to be ripe. It may never develop 'complexity' (how funny we worship this in wine, but find puzzling in people!), but this is a real mouthful of top quality terroir and brilliantly managed material. It gave immense pleasure with smoked pork belly - go try it. Serena Sutcliffe, MW
