The following condition report has been provided by Tatti Art Conservation, New York, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's: The above piece is in overall excellent condition both aesthetically and structurally. The elements in both hands of the figure appear to be original and as intended as compared to other casts and sit in place securely without mechanical join. The modeled green patina presents healthy and the currently protect wax coating is holding an even luster. This sculpture was recently given an aqueous cleaning using mild detergents and natural bristle brushes. The spear and quirt were both removed during this cleaning and the handle of the spear was slightly straightened and realigned accordingly. The quirt appeared to be without structurally concern however the copper ties had lost their patina from manipulation and were thusly retoned accordingly. Additionally, there was a minor blemish to the patina at the proper left front leg of the horse near where the rein abrades the surface that was color correct. Once structurally and aesthetically harmonized, the work was given an application of protective wax and buffed to a sheen.
