JEUNE FEMME A L’OMBRELLE

signed lower left: Jean Béraud

oil on gilt panel

panel: 11¾ by 8⅝ in.; 30 by 22 cm

framed: 20½ by 17¼ in.; 52 by 44 cm

Oil on gilt panel. There are drilled holes at the upper corners. A small loss to the gilding at the lower right corner, not visible in the current framing. There is craquelure throughout, though more widely patterned craquelure is visible at the upper center and along the right edge. The gold retains its luster. Under UV light, there is some fluorescence around the figure that does not seem to correspond to retouching and may be part of the artist's working method. There are a few scattered small dots and dashes in the black parasol.
