each modeled standing holding a Gu vase forming the candleholder, on a green lotus leaf base, the robes painted in iron-red and gilding over a yellow underskirt, with elaborate turquoise-ground patterned collar around the neck, one applied on the base with the remains of a French dealer's label inscribed Art Ceramique Anci(enne?) Nic(olier?)

A pair of almost identically-decorated figures is illustrated in Michael Cohen and William Motley, Mandarin and Menagerie, Chinese and Japanese Export Ceramic Figures, Reigate 2008, p. 103, no. 5.4, where the authors note the fine decoration, large size and unusual lotus-form bases.
