Bust of a Young Man
marble, on an associated marble socle
Bust: 63cm., 24 3/4in.
Socle: 21.5cm., 8 1/2in.
The marble is overall in good condition. There is a natural impurity in the marble resulting in a diagonal area of crystallisation from his right ear, through his right cheek, right nostril, lips and left side of his chin and through his left shoulder The marble has some natural thin dark veins, principally on the chest and drapery. There is discoloured old wax which is apparent on the chest and drapery. There are some areas of historic staining, notably on his collar bone and in parts of the drapery. There are a few minor chips to the edges of the drapery notably on the ridge of the furthest left shoulder. There is an area of original repair to the back of the head, with two added pieces of marble. There is general surface dirt. The socle has general surface dirt and discolouration and minor chips. Otherwise the condition is very good.
