THE FIRST HIGHLY ACCURATE GEOGRAPHIC MAPS OF THE ARABIAN PENINSULA, based on high-altitude photography, initiated in 1949 by the Aero Service Corps and completed in 1959. The production of these maps was the result of a cooperative venture between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Government of the United States. The Arabian-American Oil Co. and the U.S. Geological Survey did the fieldwork within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and, with the approval of the governments of neighbouring countries, a number of other oil companies contributed additional mapping to complete the coverage of the whole of the Arabian Peninsula, including Bahrain and Qatar.

PROVENANCE:

Glen Francis Brown (1911-2001), eminent American geologist who spent over 30 years mapping the Arabian Peninsula locating improved water sources for Saudi Arabia.
