Miniature terrestrial globe, sphere applied with 12 engraved and hand-coloured gores, (11cm. diameter), sheep-skin case each applied with 12 celestial half-gores, 2 metal hooks, a few minor repairs
RARE. We have been unable to trace any 11cm. globes offered at auction. Åkerman (1723-1778), was a mathematics student at Uppsala University. He was appointed engraver for the Kungliga Vetenskaps-Societeten (The Royal Society of Sciences). In 1759 he started his globe workshop, that in a short time became highly regarded.
